Ecosystem Restoration

The world faces a global water scarcity crisis, with half the population potentially living in water-stressed areas by 2025.

India is particularly vulnerable:
  • It has only 4% of global freshwater resources.
  • It accounts for 17% of the world’s population.
  • Per capita water availability in India is projected to decline by 20% by 2050.
Gujarat is especially affected within India:
  • It possesses just 2% of India’s water resources.
  • It houses 5% of the country’s population.
The Saurashtra region, including districts like Amreli, faces severe water scarcity due to limited groundwater recharge.
The Dholakia Foundation is actively addressing this crisis:
  • We are taking a holistic approach to ecosystem restoration across India and beyond.
  • We are a recognized partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
  • We are leading water conservation efforts in India.

Mission River

Under the leadership of Padma Shri Savji Dholakia, the Dholakia Foundation Launched Mission River contributing towards mitigating water scarcity in drought-prone Gujarat by building 155 lakes storing 22+ Billion litres of water benefiting at least 250,000 local farmers in local villages.

The mission aims for a wider impact, reaching more locals and farmers facing water scarcity across India. It envisions achieving its target through private, public, and philanthropic partnerships, following a 4Ps model that brings together various stakeholders to tackle India’s water scarcity crisis.

Fueling our mission to scale water conservation efforts for a water-secure India, the Dholakia Foundation has launched Mission100x. This ambitious initiative aims to gather 100 excavator machines from various partners and sponsors. We’ve already received a great start with Komatsu and BJS joining our cause by donating 1 large boon excavator, and 20 excavators, 40 backhoes respectively. Through Mission100x, we plan to conserve 100 billion litres of water by 2027.
